Dribble, shoot and score one for Kuwait.

Afro-chan would like to send a big, “Congratulations”** to the four women who were elected into the Kuwait Parliament on May 17th. This is a first for the country. Sixteen women ran for parliament seats. The winners include:

Massouma Al Mubarak(pictured) – She became Kuwait’s first female minister in 2005

Salwa Al Jassar – Professor of Education

Dr. Aseel Awadi, PhD –Professor of Philosophy

Rola Dashti – Economist

Keep in mind that in 2005 women were first given the right to run and vote in elections. Women are doing big things around the world. Let’s celebrate.

* *Part of me would also like to extend a big, “middle finger” to the groups who asked that no one vote for women in the elections but I will refrain from doing so. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs.
